Antelope Valley School District

Mathletes

Mathletes is an academic team which competes in math competitions with the local schools in the Antelope Valley. Competitions consist of five sets of questions, each containing two math problems. Students, working individually, have ten minutes to complete each set. At the end of the five sets, each school gathers its team together for a final team problem where students work cooperatively. Each question is worth one point, and the team question is worth ten points. At the end, the team with the most points is named the winner, and awards are given out to the top three ranking individual competitors with the most points. There are two competitive levels in Mathletes, Junior Varsity and Varsity. JV Mathletes teams consist of five freshman or sophomores and the Varsity teams consist of five Juniors or Seniors from each school.
